Jon Bittner

Deputy Commissioner, Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development

Jon is a fifth generation Alaskan with over a decade of experience working in the public and private sectors within the state. He recently was hired as the Deputy Commissioner of the DOCAEC. Prior to that, he work at the AEDC in early 2011 as the Director of Business and Economic Development before being promoted to Vice President in 2012. Jon also assists the Municipality of Anchorages’ 49th State Angel Fund to help vet applicants and promote the development of venture and angel capital programs in Alaska.

Jon spent several years as a legislative aide in the State House as well as serving as the committee aide to the Anchorage Caucus. He also was appointed legislative liaison to the Denali Commission for the Alaska Clearinghouse tasked with matching Alaska organizations with federal stimulus funds. In the private sector, Jon has spent two years working for an Anchorage based Environmental Consulting company as a field scientist and GIS analyst. He also worked for two years as a field geologist/GIS specialist for a local mineral exploration company based in Anchorage. Jon is a graduate of the University of Alaska Anchorage and holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology with an environmental focus. He currently serves on the Board of the West High Alumni Association, the UAA Geology Department Advisory Committee Board, the IEDC Public Policy and Advocacy Committee and the Alaska Makers Group.

Jon Bittner

As Vice President, Jon is tasked with managing the day to day operations of AEDC as well as developing new projects and initiatives that will drive the organization forward. Forrest Nabors

Dr. Nabors is a manager of the Alaska Accelerator Fund. An early-stage fund that seeks to “accelerate” and add value to startups by leveraging the experience of managers, advisors and angel investors. Target portfolio companies are at the plan or prototype stage.
He is also a Professor at the Department of Political Science at the University of Alaska at Anchorage in 2011.

Prior to coming to Alaska, Dr. Nabors was a high technology business executive in Portland, Oregon. He has remained actively engaged in supporting economic and civic development in his communities.

Angela Astle

Executive Vice President of Finance, Chugach Alaska Corporation

Angela has more than 20 years of experience in accounting and finance. She started her career at Deloitte & Touche, as an auditor serving a variety of clients including Alaska Native Corporations, banking institutions, school districts and a variety of for-profit organizations. She joined Chugach Alaska Corporation in 1998 as a Senior Accountant to coordinate the external audit, research and resolve GAAP issues, oversee the financial system and manage the general ledger, accounts payable, tax and payroll related functions. Promoted to Assistant Controller, Controller and Executive Vice President of Finance over a 14 year period, she has overseen the growth of a financial system and staff to manage a corporation of $14 million in assets to a corporation operating in multiple states with over $365 million in assets, while still maintaining a high level of staff morale and financial integrity.
